     Hi my name is Pedro Morales I am an attorney with Burnetti, P.A. I graduated from Stetson University College of Law. My areas of practice include personal injury, worker’s compensation and social security disability. I also have experience helping clients in consumer bankruptcy matters.

    I would like to tell you a little bit about my personal background. I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. My parents and my family are all from Cuba they came over to Puerto Rico in the late 60’s. Growing up in Puerto Rico, I always knew I wanted to be a lawyer. I remember when my grandfather would come visit every Sunday and he would tell stories about his days as a Judge in Cuba. My Grandfather like many others had to leave Cuba once Castro took over and of course that was the end of my Grandfather’s judgeship since the legal system, as it existed then in Cuba was abolished. His stories made me understand from an early age the importance of our legal system, which is many way is what stands between the little guy and the powerful interest in our society. Now many of my family and friends tell me that the real reason I became a lawyer is not that nice story about my Grandfather but that I just like to argue. But I feel very fortunate that I was able to listen to my Grandfather for so many years. He was a very wise man.

    When looking at qualities in a lawyer I believe one of the most important and overlooked is the capacity to listen. Listening is the way that we as lawyers understand our clients and their needs, this helps us to connect with them and ultimately better serve them. I find this is true with all of my clients, whether they be English or Spanish-speaking clients. We can never lose sight of the personal relationship we build with our clients and the individual connection that enables all of us to become better advocates.
