The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), in cooperation with Burlington Basket Company, announced a voluntary recall of 500,000 baby bassinets because of concern that the bassinets may collapse if not assembled correctly. If the cross-bracing rails are not properly locked into the correct positions, the bassinets may collapse, causing the infant to fall and suffer injuries.
The bassinets were sold nationwide between January 2003 and August 2010 at Walmart and other mass retailers, plus at online retailers including Amazon.com. The recalled models have folding legs that attach to the bottom of the basket with white plastic pins.
The CPSC encourages consumers who own a recalled model to immediately stop using the bassinet and check to make sure the support rails are in the locked position.
The recall does not involve returning the baby bassinets. Instead, Burlington Basket Company will provide owners with a free kit that includes detailed instructions on how to properly assemble the rails.
Additional information on the baby bassinet recall may be found on Burlington Basket Company website.
