Triad Group, who earlier this year announced a recall of alcohol prep pads that are being blamed for serious injuries and at least one death, has now issued another recall. H&P Industries Inc., who does business under the name Triad Group, is recalling Povidone Iodine Prep Pads. The povidone iodine wipes are manufactured by H&P and distributed by Triad Group.
A notice on Triad Groups website states that the wipes, used as an antiseptic to prep skin prior to surgery and also to help prevent infection in minor burns, scrapes and cuts, are being recalled over “concerns expressed by the Food and Drug Administration regarding the potential contamination of these products with an objectionable organism, Elizabethkingia meningoseptica.” This bacterium has been associated with causing rare but serious infections, including meningitis in premature newborns and infants in underdeveloped countries, plus pneumonia, endocarditis, and meningitis in adults with a decreased immune system. It has also been recently linked to causing soft tissue infection and necrotizing fasciitis, more commonly known as flesh-eating bacteria disease.
Triad Group has been shipping lots of the affected product since March 2008. The products affected by the recall have the following labels:
- Item #AC-3201 Amerinet
- Item #04-3201 Cardinal Health
- Item# 06-3201 Versapro/Medical Specialties
- Item# 08-3201 Novation /VHA
