Honda is expanding a recall of vehicles because the airbags might explode with a dangerous force, sending metal pieces tearing through the bag fabric. If the airbags inflate with too much force, a casing can break, which may cause injury or even death.
The original Honda recall in 2008 included almost 4,000 of its 2001 and 2002 models. The recall was then expanded in July 2009 to 443,000 vehicles; in February 2010, an additional 437,763 vehicles were added. The most recent recall involves 833,000 vehicles, bringing the total to almost 1.71 million. The recall has been expanded because Honda has determined that 2,430 faulty airbags were installed after car crashes; however, they do not know which vehicles received them.
The newly recalled vehicles include the:
- 2001-02 Accord
- 2001-02 Civic
- 2002 Odyssey
- 2002-03 CR-V
- 2002-03 Acura 3.2 TL
- 2003 Acura 3.2 CL
