The Wm. Wright Co. of Tennessee and The Shade Store of New York have both joined the list of manufacturers to issue recalls for their Roman shades over concerns of possible child strangulation risks.
There are two ways a child may be at risk of strangulation:
When placing his/her neck between the exposed inner cord and the fabric on the back of the shade.
When a child pulls the cord out and wraps the cord around his/her neck.
A total of approximately 93,000 Roman shades are included in the combined recalls of these two companies. Wm. Wright Co. (about 48,000 recalled) shades were sold nationwide at Walmart, Jo-Ann Stores and other shops from December 2007 to June 2011 for $20-25. The Wm. Wright Co. Roman shades were sold as Wrights “my home make-it-yourself’ Roman shade kits and were designed to cover windows with a maximum size of 48W x 60L. The kits item number and Wm. Wright’ may be found on the back of the package.
