In the latest update for the makers of the recalled alcohol wipes, government documents obtained by msnbc.com state that the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office of Consumer Protection Litigation and the U.S. District Court of the Eastern District of Wisconsin filed the injunction to seek a consent decree against Triad Group and Heartland Industries. The firms are accused of violating good manufacturing standards and failing to heed FDA inspections and warnings about problems with contamination and sterility.
Msnbc.com also reports that the FDA acknowledged in a letter to two United States senators that they should have taken stronger action sooner.
The medical products company, who stopped production in April after the FDA asked the U.S. Federal Marshalls to halt distribution amidst recall notices and concerns over contamination of several product lines, will not be able to manufacture or distribute any drugs until they have met strict requirements.
The recalled alcohol wipes are potentially contaminated with the bacteria bacillus cereus, and several lawsuits filed against Triad Group and Heartland Industries allege that usage of the alcohol wipes led to serious medical conditions and even death.
