MTD Products Inc. has issued a recall on its TrimmerPlus Edger Attachments product due to a possible laceration hazard.
The edger is intended to cut grass along an edge, such as a driveway, curb, or sidewalk; however, during operation the steel shaft that drives the edger blade may break causing the blade to detach. If the blade detaches, a laceration risk may occur for the user and any bystanders. The edger is sold separately as an attachment to most major brands of attachment capable trimmers.
Approximately 14,500 MTD TrimmerPlus Edger Attachments are included in the recall with the associated model number 41AJLE-C092 LE720. Other identifying markings pertaining to the recalled edger include the words ‘TrimmerPlus’ printed in black and ‘LE720’ printed in white over a red backdrop on the blade’s housing. The affected serial numbers are printed on white labels located on the edger’s shaft and apply only to those serial numbers ranging from 1C##1DR#### to 1D##1DR####.
The recalled edger attachments were sold at Lowe’s and other home improvement and hardware stores nationwide and online between March 2011 and April 2011 for about $70.
Owners of the recalled product are encouraged to cease use of the product and contact MTD for a free replacement. Customers may contact MTD Products Inc at 1-888-848-6038 Monday through Friday from 8am to 5pm EST or via the website at www.mtdproducts.com for more information.
