Ford Motor Company has issued a recall for certain model year Ford Rangers, Ford Excursions, E-Series* vans and F-Series* trucks. The recall was initiated due to a possible failure in the multi-function switch controlling the exterior lights of the car.
The multi-function switch fails to comply with the lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment requirements of the Federal Motor Safety Standard. The multi-function switch contains a slider subcomponent that may become deformed. Once deformed, the slider may malfunction resulting in an inactivation of the taillights, turn signal, warning flashers, and/or brake lights. The failure of properly functioning lights may increase the possibility of an automobile accident.
Approximately 26,715 vehicles are included in the recall. Ford has recalled the 2011 Ranger trucks built at the Twin Cities Assembly Plant; multi-function switch parts delivered to dealers for repairs add another five models to the recall.
