Heavy metal singer Chris Fronzak of the band Atilla has filed a lawsuit in Portland, Oregon after being stricken with Salmonella. Fronzak consumed a spicy tuna roll in Louisiana. Less than a day and a half later, he was suffering from diarrhea, fever, vomiting, cramps, and other side effects.
The tuna in the sushi was part of a nearly thirty ton recall of Nakaochi Scrape (bits of tuna removed from the fishes’ backbones) by Moon Marine USA Corp. Government health officials linked outbreaks of salmonella Nchanga and salmonella Bareilly to the Moon Marine tuna. A minimum of thirty-two people have been hospitalized due to Salmonella poisoning related to this recall. According to the government, “for every salmonella infection they hear about, 29.3 go unreported.”
After visiting an emergency room in Kansas City, and being diagnosed with the foodborne illness and receiving an antibiotic to help, Fronzak decided to pursue a claim because he does not have health insurance, and is facing nearly $10,000 in medical bills after seeking treatment. Despite the illness, the band was forced to continue touring because otherwise they would have faced thousands of dollars if they cancelled their tour stops. The singer stated, “I’m not at fault for any of that. I feel like I’ve been done wrong and I deserve compensation.”
