General Motors has announced a voluntary recall of 413,148 vehicles due to oil that may collect in the engine shield, as a result, the oil and the engine shield may ignite and burn increasing the risk of an injury or death.
According to the recall notice, either condition could result in an engine compartments fire, potentially leading to an injury or death. The recalls affects the following vehicles that are equipped with engine shield:
- Model year 2011 Chevrolet Cruze manufactured October 2009 through May 2012
Under the recall notice, GM will notify owners and dealers will modify the engine shield to prevent fluid from contacting the shield. In addition, on the vehicles with a manual transmission, dealers will apply protective tape to the electronic power steering wire harness and this will be performed free of charge.
