Forever Cheese Inc. as issued an immediate recall for Ricotta Salata Frescolina brand because they may possibly contain Listeria Monocytogenes. The affected cheese product is the Ricotta Salata brand Frescolina from one production date coded 441202.
Listeria is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems. Healthy people who only suffer short-term symptoms such as severe headache, high fever, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection may also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
The cheese recall affects Florida and the following states: CA, CO, D.C., GA, IL, IN, IN, MA, MD, ME, MT, NJ, NM, NY, OH, OR, PA, VA, WA between June 20 and August 9, 2012. The cheese products were sold to supermarkets, whole distributors and restaurants. There have been 14 reported illnesses in 11 states that may possibly be related to this recall.
