Ford Motor Company is recalling certain models of the 2013 Fusion sedan and Escape SUV because the engines may overheat, possibly creating a fire. The affected models are equipped with the 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. Owners of these vehicles should not drive them, and immediately contact their local Ford dealer to arrange free alternative transportation. The company is currently evaluating the repair process and necessary parts, but no timetable has been set for when a repair will be available.
To see if you have one of the affected vehicles, locate the vehicle identification number (VIN) at the base of the windshield. The eighth character of the VIN will be an “X” for the Escape and “R” on Fusions. Other models of the Escape and Fusion are not part of the recall.
Drivers have reported that, prior to overheating, a warning sound is played and a warning message of “Engine Power Reduced to Lower Temps” or “Engine over temp, stop safely” is displayed. If you experience this issue, pull over immediately and turn off the engine.
