BMW has announced a voluntary recall of 360 vehicles due to the insufficient sealing of the drivetrain housing assembly from the lack of grease lubrication on the gear that transfers power to the transmission, increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
According to the recall notice, the connection between the electric motor and the transmission may wear, possibly resulting in a sudden loss of vehicle propulsion, potentially leading to a crash. The recalls affects the following vehicles that are equipped with the drivetrain connection:
- Model year 2011 BMW ActiveE manufactured August 2011 through December 2011
Under the recall notice, BMW will inspect the drivetrain connection and update the sealing system and it will be performed free of charge. Any worn electric motor gearing will be replaced.
