Over 1.3 million GE Appliance dishwashers have been voluntarily recalled due to electrical failures that can cause fires. The recall includes GE, GE Adora, GE Eterna, GE Profile and Hotpoint dishwashers sold in various exterior colors and finishes. The dishwashers issued in the recall were sold March 2006 through August 2009 at appliance stores throughout the nation.
At least 15 incident reports have been filed. Due to electrical failures in the heating element of the dishwashers, seven fires have been reported, three of which caused property damage. Injuries from the electrical failures have also been reported.
Retailers have advised consumers not to return the dishwashers because they are not prepared to accept the returns. Instead consumers of the recalled dishwashers should stop use immediately and contact GE Appliances for either a free in-home repair kit or a rebate card towards a new front control plastic or stainless steal tub dishwasher. For additional questions, consumers can contact GE at (866) 918-8760.
The serial numbers of the units recalled are listed below. Consumers can locate the model and serial number on the left tub wall when the door is open. The brand, model number, and serial number are on a metallic plate.
