Kolcraft is recalling almost 100,000 Jeep Liberty strollers after receiving 39 incident reports of the tire wheels rupturing. The inner tube of the tire poses the risk of rupturing which can cause the wheel rims to become flying projectiles.
The three-wheeled strollers were sold in specialty stores, including Burlington Coat Factory, Sears, and Toys R Us from June 2010 through June 2013. The affected Jeep Liberty model numbers are JL031, JL032, JL034, JL035, or JL036. Customers can locate the model number on a white tag located on the upper center of the back of the seat pad. The strollers were sold in various colors, such as green seat and canopy, gray seat and canopy with teal stripes, orange seat and canopy with tan stripes, tan seat and canopy with yellow strip, and tan seat and canopy with orange canopy rim. Attached on the stroller rim is a toy red steering wheel, key, and shift lever. The recall does not include strollers that have gray triangles located on the rim of the wheels.
The Consumer Product Safety Commision received at least 39 incident reports of the wheels fracturing. Among those 39 reports, there were 18 injuries reported, including two children being harmed. Most injuries occurred when adults where inflating the wheels.
Consumers should immediately stop using the strollers and contact Kolcraft to receive free wheel replacements. It is advised that consumers use manual pumps instead of gas station pumps to inflate the tires.
