Be Amazing! Toys has recalled Monster Science and Super Star Science Colossal Water Balls because if the toy balls are ingested it could cause a serious health risk. The marble-sized toys could easily be mistaken as candy, but if ingested the toys could expand up to 400 times their original size and cause discomfort, vomiting, dehydration, and could even cause life-threatening injuries.
The toys absorb water and do not show up on an x-ray. The only way to remove the toy water balls is through surgery. A similar water-absorbing toy required an 8-month-old to have surgery to remove the expanding object.
The toys were sold in Monster Science Colossal Water Balls and Super Star Science! Colossal Water Balls kits with the model numbers of 7255 and 7704, which can be found on the back of the packages. The Monster Science kit has eight balls and “Growth Powder.” The Super Star Science! kit contains five balls. The balls come in blue, green, red, purple, yellow, orange, and clear colors and the package has the “Be Amazing! Toys” logo and “Ages 8+” printed on it.
Colossal Water Balls were sold in specialty stores, education centers, on Amazon.com, and on BeAmazingToys during September 2010 through November 2012. Consumers are warned to remove the toys from children and contact Be Amazing! Toys for a refund.
