Wilton Industries has issued a recall on Chefmate 2-Quart Tea Kettles for potential burn hazards. Steam from the kettle can travel up the handle and water can spill from the spout onto the consumer causing burns. The kettle can also fail to whistle when ready posing a hazard for water to evaporate leaving the bottom of the kettle melted onto the stove. There are 13 known incident reports.
Almost 720,000 kettles were sold exclusively in Target stores from January 2006 through May 2013. The kettles were sold with a black finish and a solid black handle. Consumers can locate the Chefmate logo on the bottom of the tea kettle.
Consumers should immediately stop using the kettles and return them to Target stores nationwide or contact Wilton Industries for information on how to obtain a full refund.
