Initially recalled last August, Toyota is once again issuing a recall on over 880,000 RAV4 SUVs and Lexus HS250h sedans. The previous repair work was incorrect and failed to fix the rear suspension problem. It is unknown if Toyota did not provide the right instructions or if dealership technicians failed to follow the correct procedures.
The RAV4s were manufactured from 2006 through 2011 and the Lexus HS250h models were manufactured from 2010. The problems stem from rear suspension nuts that are not tightened correctly after a wheel alignment, which can cause the lower suspensions to rust and separate from the vehicles. There have been 131 incident reports, including nine accidents, and three injuries.
Toyota dealership technicians are receiving additional training and will inspect and replace the suspension arms that may be loose or rusted at no cost to owners.
