BMW has issued a recall for approximately 134,000 luxury sedans in its 5-Series for rear brake light problems. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration states that corrosion on the electric connection can cause taillights, rear turn signals, and backup light failures. The lack of rear brake light warning signals could lead to accidents and injuries.
The recall includes 5-Series models sold from 2008 through 2010 and produced during March 1, 2007 through December 31, 2009. The models recalled are the 528i, 535i, 550i, and M5.
BMW will notify owners of the recall and dealers will repair the brake light electrical connection at no cost. Owners can call 1-800-525-7417 for additional information.
