Toyota has recalled approximately 700,000 Sienna minivans in North America and 615,000 of those in the United States. The Sienna models contain a faulty gear shift which could result in a vehicle roll-away. The incident reports reveal that the lock on the shift could be damaged resulting in the shift lever slipping out of the park position without the driver depressing the brake pedal. There have been 21 accidents and two minor injuries reported.
The recall includes 2004 through 2009 model years.
Toyota dealers will notify owners and inspect and replace the defective shift lock solenoid with a new one.
