Ford has recalled approximately 140,000 2013 model Escape crossovers for fire risks. The 1.6-liter EcoBoost 4-cylinder engine can overheat, which can cause cracks that allow oil to leak and ignite. At least 13 fires have been reported.
Ford is also recalling about 10,000 2013 Escape models also with the 1.6-liter and 4-cylinder engine because previous repair work in an earlier recall may have been done incorrectly. The initial recall from last year has been reissued because the repair work may have included damaged fuel lines, which could result in fuel leaks.
In another recall, Ford is recalling 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ Hybrids because they can possibly shift out of the Park position without pressure on the brake pedal.
Since the redesign of the Escape crossover in 2012, it has been recalled seven different times for various issues. Ford will fix the cooling systems and inspect and replace the damaged fuel lines at no cost to owners.
