Hyundai Motor America has recalled approximately 263,000 cars for sensor problems that can cause drivers to lose power-steering. The sensors may detect discrepancies and therefore may disable the power-assisted steering. The lack of power-steering could result in an increased risk of an accident due to drivers having to expend greater energy in manually steering the vehicles.
The 263,000 recalled cars are Elantras and Elantra Touring cars with the model years 2008, 2009, and 2010.
Hyundai will notify owners and dealers will fix the electronic power control unit for free. Owners with questions can contact the customer service desk at 855-671-3059.
