Nissan has added approximately 640,000 vehicles to expand a former recall from October 2014. The expansion brings the recall total to 1.1 million Nissan vehicles. The recall includes 2013 through 2015 Altima sedans and Infiniti vehicles for hood latching defects.
The expansion covers cars whose duel hood latching systems do not work properly. The hood latches can gather debris which can cause them to stay unlatched when the hood is closed. The hoods could then open when the vehicle is in motion creating a higher risk for an accident.
Dealers will clean and oil the secondary latch as well as replace the defective mechanism or modify the latch lever on the recalled models.
