Almost one million Trek bicycles equipped with front disc brakes have been recalled for crash hazards. The front wheel hub can come in contact with the front disc brake assembly, which can cause a sudden unexpected stop or the front wheel to detach from the bicycle. Trek has received three incident reports including an incident causing one rider to become paralyzed.
All models equipped with front disc brakes are recalled from the years 2000 through 2015. The bicycles were sold nationwide at bicycle stores from September 1999 through April 2015. The recall does not include bicycles that have a front quick release lever that do not open a full 180 degrees.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled bicycles and to contact Trek for a installation of a new quick release at no cost. Trek is also providing a $20 coupon to consumers who contact them about the recall. Consumers can contact Trek at 800-373-4594 for more information.
