L.L. was in a modest automobile accident where he injured his neck. As the attorney spoke to the client on the phone over the course of the year, the client began to open up to said he was suffering from severe depression. He was a very proud man and noticeably uncomfortable talking about his personal life, including how he perceived his fiancé thought of him as less of a man for being injured. The attorney found him a mental health practitioner who diagnosed him with severe depression. The client was relieved to learn that there may be treatment for his condition. The mental health doctor prepared a report attributing his depression to the car accident. The insurance company recognized the severity and paid him $45,000. In the attorney’s opinion, the client felt vindicated because his lawyer, a therapist and the insurance company recognized his condition and believed him. He is no longer with his fiancé and is doing much better in terms of his mental health. In addition, the client has referred three cases in the last two months to the attorney.
