Apple, which owns Beats Electronics, has issued a recall on approximately 222,000 Beats Pill XL wireless speakers for fire hazards. The battery in the speakers can overheat posing a risk for fires and injuries. Apple has received at least eight incident reports of the speakers overheating, including one case of property damage, and one injury.
The recalled speakers were sold at Apple retail stores, various electronics stores, and online at Apple and Beatsbydre from January 2014 through June 2015.
Consumers are advised to stop using the recalled speakers and to request a refund at Apple.com. Consumers will either receive Apple store credit or an electronic refund.
