IKEA has recalled over 27 million dressers after two toddlers were crushed and killed. The furniture poses a risk of falling or tipping over if not anchored to the wall. IKEA has created a repair kit that includes wall anchoring systems at no cost to consumers.
There have been two deaths and over 14 reports of the IKEA furniture tipping over causing injuries to children. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, a child is injured every 24 minutes and killed every two weeks due to furniture tips and falls.
The CPSC warns consumers to stop using IKEA children chests and dressers that are taller than 23 ½ inches and adult chests and dressers that are taller than 29 ½ inches that are not anchored to the walls.
IKEA’s free repair kit includes tip-over restraints and wall anchoring hardware. Click here for information about how to obtain a repair kit.
