EKSuccess Brands has recalled the American Girl Crafts Pearly Beads & Ribbon Bracelets Kit due to a violation of the lead paint standard.
The recall pertains to the painted surface coating on some of the beads containing excessive amounts of lead. Federal law prohibits products intended for children under the age of 12 to contain lead at levels more than 300 parts per million. The law is intended to specifically protect children’s health. Ingesting too much lead has been linked to irreversible brain damage, impaired mental functioning and numerous other complications.
Approximately 75,000 kits were sold nationwide at Michaels and other retailers from September 2009 to June 2011 for about $8. The kit contains 56 pieces with the SKU number 30-585331 located on the back, lower right corner of the package.
The jewelry kit contains bead colors of blue, orange, white and pink. Some pink beads have darker pink butterflies imprinted on them. The jewelry kit also contains colored ribbons in orange, red, blue and purple.
Consumers are encouraged to remove the kit and any finished bracelets from a child’s possession and contact EKSuccess Brands at 1-855-535-2099 from 9am to 5:30pm EST Monday through Thursday and from 9am to 3pm EST on Friday or visit the company’s website at www.eksuccessbrands.com for a full refund.
