BMW has recalled certain 2011 X5 Diesel Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV’s) due to a possible complication with the belt tensioner that may lead to the sudden loss of power steering.
A supplier component manufacturing error may have cracks beginning in the welds in the belt tensioner that over time may lead to a malfunction with the belt tensioner. A failure in the belt tensioner may lead to a sudden loss in control of the power steering, increasing the risk of a motor vehicle accident.
Approximately 923 BMW X5 Diesel SAV’s may be included in the recall that were manufactured from March 31st 2011 to May 19th 2011.
Customers may take the vehicle to the nearest dealer for replacement of the belt tensioner at no charge. Owners may also contact BMW Customer Relations and Services at 1-800-525-7417 for more information concerning the recall.
