Progressive Insurance has reached a settlement with the family of a deceased policyholder after they posted a Tumblr post criticizing the company’s handling of the claim. In 2010, Katie Fisher died in an auto accident after an underinsured driver ran a red light. Fisher’s family brought suit against Progressive after they refused to pay the difference. When the victim’s brother found out the company was assisting the other driver’s insurance company in his legal defense to avoid paying the claim, Matt Fisher wrote a post on his Tumblr blog entitled, ” My Sister Paid Progressive Insurance to Defend Her Killer In Court.” The post quickly went viral, and the company received criticism via their Facebook and Twitter accounts. Three days after the post went live, Progressive contacted the Fisher family to reach settlement.
