According to the recall notice, if the rear axle pinion nut loosens, the axle may lock up and cause the vehicle to lose control, potentially leading to a vehicle crash. The recalls affects the following vehicles that are equipped with the pinion nut retainer:
- Model year 2009 Chrysler Aspen manufactured January 2008 through December 2008
- Model year 2009 Dodge Dakota manufactured February 2007 through June 2009
- Model year 2009 Dodge Durango manufactured January 2008 through December 2008
- Model year 2009 Dodge RAM 1500 manufactured February 2008 through October 2011
Under the recall notice, Chrysler will notify owners and dealers will install a pinion nut retainer and it will be performed free of charge. For additional information, owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-247-9753.
