Continuing with its recalls, Chrysler issues a recall for almost 500,000 vehicles due to faulty head-restraint modules. In the event of an accident, the microcontroller works to move the head restraints forward in order to assist in preventing whiplash causing head and neck injuries. However, due to the 2011 earthquake and tsunami in Japan and a widespread microcontroller shortage, faulty ones joined the supply chain.
The vehicle models recalled are:
- 2011-2013 Chrysler Sebrings
- 2011-2013 Dodge Avengers
- 2011-2013 Jeep Liberty SUVs
- 2011-2013 Chrysler 200s
- 2011-2012 Dodge Nitro SUVs
Chrysler will fix the system software or upgrade the faulty microcontroller at no cost to the customer.
