This Monday kicked off the annual Click It or Ticket seat belt enforcement campaign, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The campaign is a three-week long national program that targets motorists who do not wear seat belts.
In 2010, safety belts saved an estimated 12,546 lives nationwide according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Florida law requires all drivers and passengers in the front of a vehicle to fasten their seat belts. Additional passengers under of the age of eighteen are also required to buckle up. If a seat belt is not buckled, the motorist will receive a non-moving violation.
