Fiat Chrysler Recalls 1.1 Million Vehicles After Injuries
Fiat Chrysler is recalling 1.1 million vehicles worldwide, including 811,586 vehicles in the United States. An investigation by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration revealed the vehicles’ automatic transmission shifter caused driver confusion which resulted in 41 injuries.
The transmission shifter levers spring back into the same position after being shifted and drivers must rely on indicator lights because they cannot tell which gear the vehicle is in by looking at the shifter. Complaint reports include instances where drivers thought the vehicle was in park and then the vehicle rolled away. Other complaints state drivers thought the vehicle was in reverse and it accelerated forward instead.
The recalled vehicles include:
- 2012-2014 Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 sedans
- 2014-2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs
Fiat Chrysler will contact customers to make upgrade to the vehicles, including enhanced warnings and modified settings.
