Honda has recalled approximately 344,187 Odyssey minivans from the 2007 and 2008 model years for faulty software components that can cause unexpected braking. Due to a combination of components, the Vehicle Safety Assist System (VSA) may cause the brakes the unexpectedly brake hard, without the brake lights illuminating. Unexpected braking without proper warning of brake lights increases the risk for a rear-end collision.
The recalled minivans were manufactured from August 8, 2006 through September 8, 2008. Honda reports that dealers will not be able to fix the faulty braking problem until Spring 2014. Until then, Honda will notify owners of the issue and include instructions on how to help prevent the unexpected braking problem.
