Kia has announced the recall of more than 10,000 Sorento SUVs. The recall was initiated because the front passenger airbag may not work correctly. The airbags are designed to turn off when children or small adults sit in the passenger seat; however, a faulty passenger-side airbag sensing system may misidentify the weight of the passenger and turn the airbags off. If the airbag system is turned off during an accident, the front passenger will not have any airbag protection in some frontal collisions, which may increase the risk of injury.
The recalled Sorento SUVs are model year 2007-2008 and were manufactured from June 15, 2006 through November 27, 2007. Under the recall notice, Kia will update the programming the Sorento OCS control module free of charge. Owners may contact Kia customer service at 1-800-333-4542.
