A woman lost her life after her car bounced off a second vehicle and ran into the path of the oncoming traffic. The fatal crash near Crystal River was reported to the authorities just after 3 p.m. on Tuesday, December 29. The victim was identified only as a 33-year-old woman from Tarpon Springs.
According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the deceased victim was traveling northbound on Citrus Avenue at the time. The traffic had slowed down just ahead but the victim failed to slow down in time to avoid a collision with the vehicle right in front of her.
As her vehicle collided with the vehicle right in front, it then bounced sideways and went into the southbound lane. This brought the vehicle directly into the path of the oncoming traffic. This was when a southbound pickup truck crashed into the victim’s vehicle, hitting it on the driver’s side.
The Tarpon Springs woman sustained critical injuries in this collision. She succumbed to her injuries and was pronounced dead on the scene of the crash.
The first vehicle that was hit by the victim’s car had two occupants in it at the time. These included the driver, identified as a woman aged 69, and a 77-year-old male passenger, both from Clearwater. Both sustained serious injuries in the crash and were rushed to a local hospital.
The pickup that crashed into the vehicle also had two elderly occupants in it at the time. These were identified as a male driver aged 77 and a male passenger aged 95, both from Lecanto. The pickup occupants also sustained serious injuries in the collision and had to be taken to an area hospital for further treatment.
The crash near Crystal River remains under investigation by the FHP. The agency is yet to release the names of the victim and other injured persons.
