One Injured in Motorcycle Accident Caused by Deer

A motorcycle accident took place on Thursday when a rider attempted to prevent a collision with a deer. The accident took place on Highway 90 in Okaloosa County.

According to the authorities, the deer had walked on to the road. Andrew Richards, 32, of Crestview was riding a motorcycle when he spotted the deer. As per the preliminary investigations, troopers with the Florida Highway Patrol found that Richards applied brakes upon spotting the deer. This led the bike to skid for about 50 feet on the road. Then the motorcycle lost its balance and fell on the road, sliding for another 30 feet.

Richards sustained serious injuries as a result of the crash. He was riding a 2002 Honda CBR600 motorcycle at the time. Once the troopers arrived on the scene of the accident, Richards was found seriously injured. A medical helicopter was used to transport him to the ICU of a nearby hospital. The police didn’t immediately reveal the severity of the injuries Richards suffered. However, his mother later posted on Facebook stating that he was suffering from broken ribs, a broken shoulder, and an injured hip.

It has also been revealed that Andrew Richards is the brother of Ashley Richards who was previously injured in a hit-and-run accident back in September. Ashley’s accident took place in Crestview. In the accident, she sustained serious head injuries including a fractured skull.

Coincidentally, Ashley was also admitted to the same hospital where her brother is now being treated. She spent nearly three months at the Fort Walton Beach Medical Center and had been released only last Friday. Her brother is now in the intensive care unit of the hospital, less than a week after she was released. Andrew remains in critical condition in the ICU while the authorities continue to investigate the crash.
