A collision between a tractor and a milk truck resulted in the death of one person. The incident took place on the Race Track Road in St. Johns County. The deceased was the driver of the tractor involved in the accident.

According to the details shared by the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office, the fatal crash took place on Monday, July 6. Both vehicles involved in the incident were traveling westbound on the Race Track Road. The milk truck, traveling in the rear of the tractor, hit the tractor from behind. The impact of the hit caused the tractor to fall over on its side, causing critical injuries to the driver.

After hitting the tractor’s rear, the milk truck driver briefly lost control of the vehicle. The truck went across the center line and into the path of the oncoming traffic in the eastbound lane. It also struck a tree which caused significant damage to the front of the truck.

The tractor driver succumbed to his injuries at the scene of crash. He was pronounced dead once the first responders and law enforcement arrived. The driver of the milk truck remained safe and didn’t incur any notable injuries.

The incident occurred in front of the Fruit Cove Middle School. It occurred at around 12:15 p.m. Following the crash, traffic on the Race Track Road was closed for several hours as the deputies with the Sheriff’s Office continued to investigate at the site of the accident.

At this point, the focus of the investigation is to determine how the accident occurred and whose negligence caused it. Rear-end collisions are typically due to the speeding or recklessness of the rear driver, a spokesperson with the Sheriff’s Office stated while discussing the investigations around the crash. However, if the vehicle in front suddenly slows down for no reason, responsibility may lie with the driver at the front.
