Piaggio has announced a voluntary recall of 2,147 scooters due to the ignition control that may fail and alter the ignition timing and may lead to a fire.
According to the recall notice, the engine may backfire into the airbox due to improper ignition timing, potentially increasing the risk of a fire. The recalls affects the following vehicles that are equipped with the ignition control:
- Model year 2011 Piaggio Fly 50 manufactured 2011 through 2012
- Model year 2010 Piaggio Vespa LX50 manufactured 2010 through 2012
- Model year 2009 Piaggio Vespa S50 manufactured 2009 through 2012
Under the recall notice, Piaggio will notify owners and dealers will replace the ignition control unit free of charge. For addition information, owners may contact Piaggio customer care helpline at 212-380-4433.
