According to a recent article on msnbc.com, H&P Industries and the Triad Group, manufactures and distributors of alcohol wipes and other medical products, have received approval from the FDA in the first step toward reopening. The FDA had previously forced the sister companies to stop production after reports of numerous illnesses and deaths linked to the same bacterium, Bacillus cereus, detected in contaminated alcohol wipes made and distributed by the companies.
The article goes on to state that H&P Industries and the Triad Group have submitted a “so-called ‘recondition plan’ …that stipulates how the sister firms will be allowed to rework more than $6 million of seized medical supplies so that they’re safe for use — or destroy products that can’t be repaired.” The FDA approved the reconditioning plan, which according to msnbc.com, was required under the June court order that stated the companies would not be able to “‘manufacture or distribute drugs or any medical devices until they have established acceptable quality assurance’ in conformity with the Current Good Manufacturing Practice, said Shelly Burgess, FDA spokeswoman.”
The public will not be allowed to know the details of the reconditioning plan that outlines how they intend to fix the problems with the products. The companies have also denied public information requests from msnbc.com for copies of the plans.
