Orlando Ranks #1: Most Dangerous Cities for Pedestrians

For the second time in a row, Orlando ranked first on Transportation for America’s list of the most dangerous places for pedestrians. Orlando isn’t the only Florida city to make the list though;  the top four spots were held by cities in the Sunshine State.

Most Dangerous metro areas:

1. Orlando-Kissimmee, FL
2. Tampa-St. Petersburg-Clearwater, FL
3. Miami-Fort Lauderdale-Pompano Beach, FL
4. Jacksonville, FL
5. Memphis, TN-MS-AR
6. Raleigh-Cary, NC
7. Louisville/Jefferson County, KY-IN
8. Houston-Sugar Land-Baytown, TX
9. Birmingham-Hoover, AL
10. Atlanta-Sandy Springs-Marietta, GA

To help reduce the number of pedestrian accidents, drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to learn and abide by the rules of the road. For example:

Drivers:

• Stop for pedestrians in a crosswalk
• No cell phone calls or texting
• Yield to pedestrians when turning left or right
• Do not drive while impaired
• Bicycles have as much right to the entire lane as vehicles

Pedestrians:

• Look left, then right, then left again
• No cell phone usage
• Obey Walk/Don’t Walk Traffic signals
• Cross only in designated crosswalks
• Use extra caution when crossing a street with multiple lanes of traffic
