Man and Woman Charged With DUI in Utility Pole Crash

Two individuals were charged by authorities with driving under the influence (DUI) after a crash involving a utility pole. The crash took place in Silver Springs Shores on Wednesday, May 20.

According to the details shared by the authorities, a man was traveling eastbound on the Maricamp Road when he appears to have lost control of his vehicle. The vehicle, identified as a Pontiac car, then left the roadway close to the Southeast 110^th Avenue. It struck a utility pole and went down a ditch before finally coming to stop upside down.

The incident occurred late at night around 3 a.m. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Larod Langston, 33, of Ocklawaha. Following the crash, Langston exited the car and came to a nearby home. Eyewitness Carolyn Hartley in a statement revealed that she heard a noise and saw sparks coming from a transformer near her home at night.

She came out of her home to see the mangled Pontiac lying on its roof. Langston, who had been driving the vehicle, was nearby. He came towards Harley and asked for a drink. Langston also asked if he could take a shower at her home. Harley offered him a drink but refused permission for a shower.

Soon afterward, another vehicle stopped by. This was a Chevy Malibu being driven by Langton’s girlfriend who was identified as Kimberley Moore, 36, of Silver Springs Shores. Moore gave Langston a lift and the two drove off, leaving behind the mangled Pontiac.

Marion County deputies were able to pursue and locate both suspects. Once they had been stopped, they were both checked for blood alcohol levels. Langston’s BAC was recorded as 0.175 while that of Moore was recorded at 0.186. Both were charged with DUI while Langston also faces an additional charge of leaving the scene of an accident.
