A Manatee County crash on I-75 caused injuries to a trooper with the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident occurred on Wednesday, November 11.
According to the details shared by the authorities, the officer involved in the crash sustained minor injuries. The incident came about on the morning of Wednesday. A vehicle was headed southbound on the I-75 at about 9:30 a.m. when its driver apparently lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle was identified only as a sedan.
The sedan driver lost control due to wet road conditions. It then crashed into an FHP patrol vehicle which was parked on the shoulder of the road at the time. The crash happened close to a construction zone near mile marker 216. The FHP vehicle hit in the collision was identified as a Dodge Charger.
As the sedan crashed into the Charger, the latter was propelled into a third vehicle due to the sheer impact of the collision. The third vehicle that was hit by the Charger was a construction pickup. After hitting the pickup, the Dodge Charger was pushed a further 50 feet.
The sedan driver was identified as a 20-year-old male from Bradenton. He was wearing a seatbelt at the time and remained largely safe in the incident. The driver of the pickup also remained largely safe and had no notable injuries to report. He was identified as a 56-year-old man from North Port.
The trooper who sustained injuries had just gotten back inside the Dodge Charger when it was hit. He was identified as a male aged 24 from Fort Myers. He sustained only minor injuries in the incident.
FHP continues to investigate the incident and has not released any names yet. It remains to be seen if the driver is charged or receives any citations.
