DUI Crash in Lake Wales Kills One

One man lost his life in a single-vehicle DUI crash in Lake Wales on Friday, November 6. The victim was identified by the authorities as Charles Goodman, 22, of Lake Wales.

According to the details shared by the authorities, a vehicle identified as a 1999 blue GMC Sierra pickup was involved in the incident. The vehicle had three occupants in it at the time. Trevor Goodman, 21, of Lake Wales was driving the vehicle. Charles Goodman was a passenger in the pickup while a second passenger was identified as Austin Harrison, 20.

As per the Polk County Sheriff’s Office, the pickup was traveling westbound on Camp Mack Road when its driver appears to have lost control of the vehicle. The pickup veered away into the eastbound lanes. It then spun away from the roadway and onto a green patch where it came to rest after overturning.

Charles Goodman was ejected during the crash and died from the critical injuries sustained in the process. The other two occupants of the vehicle, including the driver Trevor Goodman, remained safe and had no notable injuries to report.

None of the three occupants of the vehicle were wearing a seatbelt at the time of the incident. Following the crash, the driver of the vehicle was asked to undergo a breathalyzer test, to which he consented. The results of the test showed that his blood alcohol concentration was 0.104, whereas the legal limit in Florida is 0.08.

Based on this evidence, authorities arrested the driver. A number of charges were brought against him including DUI, DUI manslaughter, and driving with a suspended license.

Further investigations conducted by the Sheriff’s Office revealed that three men had been drinking at a bar in Babson Park before they hit the road and caused the DUI crash in Lake Wales.
