Driver Involved in Drunk Driving Fatality Sentence to 12 Years

Driver involved in drunk driving fatality sentenced to 12 years. A Florida man involved in a drunk driving crash resulted in the death of a woman. The accident took place more than 5 years ago and it is only now that the court has reached a verdict.

In May 2014, Kiereek Seymour was driving his vehicle under the influence when he hit the victim. The crash took place at around 4 in the morning in East Naples. Seymour crashed his car into the victim’s vehicle at the intersection of Davis and Lakewood boulevards. The crash seriously injured the driver of the other vehicle who was rushed to the hospital but died from her injuries.

Seymour was arrested by the police and tested for alcohol. He admitted to having had one and a half beers before the crash. Upon an alcohol and drug test, the authorities found that Seymour had consumed alcohol and had also taken a drug that was in his blood at the time.

It had been five years since the crash and Seymour has now been sentenced to 12 years in prison. He was convicted of DUI manslaughter last year in May. In addition to his prison sentence, Seymour has also been ordered by the court to attend a victim impact panel and undergo substance abuse evaluation. He is also to follow the court recommendations for treatment and pay up all the costs involved in his trial so far. His driving license has also been permanently revoked.

DUI manslaughter is a serious offense in Florida. Florida law stipulates that the punishment for the offense is a mandatory minimum prison time of 12 years with a maximum sentence of up to 15 years. A person found guilty is also to pay a fine of up to $1,000.
