A man lost his life after his car crashed into a lake on Thursday, June 11. The incident took place at night and was reported to the authorities after 11 p.m.
According to the details shared by the Florida Highway Patrol, the fatal accident occurred in North Naples. A car was traveling westbound on the Imperial Golf Course. As the car drew just east of the Wedgefield Drive, the driver appeared to have lost control of the vehicle. At this point, it is not clear exactly how or why the driver lost control.
After the driver lost control of the vehicle, the car veered left at a high speed. It then entered a grassy patch on the shoulder before veering further off and entering a roadside lake where it overturned.
According to FHP, the car had two occupants in it at the time of the crash. These included the driver and a passenger. Neither of the men was identified by FHP although the troopers shared that the driver was a 45-year-old man from Naples.
Once the car overturned in the water body, it came to rest on its roof. The location of the crash was close to the U.S. 41 as well as the Imperial Golf Club.
The driver of the vehicle sustained critical injuries in the crash. He remains under treatment at a hospital. The passenger, identified as a male, died in the incident. Police have yet to reveal the name or age of the passenger.
Investigations into the incident are still ongoing. At this point, authorities are trying to determine the cause of the accident. For now, FHP has not ruled out speeding or alcohol as the causes of the accident. More details surrounding the incident and its causes will become available once FHP concludes investigations into the accident.
