Careless driving is one of the key causes of accidents and collisions on the road. Rear-end collisions, in particular, are often a result of inattentive drivers who are not looking at the traffic in front of them. Careless car rear-ends PSTA bus, injures seven.

This was the case when a 2006 Nissan SUV rear-ended a Pinellas Suncoast Transit Authority bus this Tuesday, on September 24. The collision took place on State Road 686. The SUV was being driven by 35-year-old Greenville resident Nicholas Deane. The PSTA bus he collided was not moving at the time and had instead stopped to take on more passengers.

The collision took place early in the morning. The bus driver was safe from injuries but a number of passengers sustained minor injuries. 16 passengers were taken to the medical facilities located nearby, including the Largo Medical Center and the Morton Plant hospital. However, no one involved in the collision sustained any serious injuries.

As a result of the crash, traffic on SR 686 came to a halt for nearly an hour and a halt. The center and outside lanes of the road were closed to traffic from around 7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. Troopers reached the site of the accident and took stock of the crash. Nicholas Deane stayed at the scene of the accident. The troopers later cited him for Careless Driving for his sheer inability to see the bus. Deane sustained no injuries as a result of the collision.

Careless Driving is a common traffic citation in rear-end collisions and is a moving violation in Florida. Troopers give a driver a Careless Driving citation when they believe he or she is responsible for a rear-end accident. The penalties for a Careless Driving citation typically comprise of fines and possible reduction of your driver’s license. Repeated citations can cause license suspension as well.
