Fatal Road Accidents in Polk County Cause Two Deaths

Fatal road accidents in Polk County cause two deaths. In two separate accidents last Saturday, October 6, two people died from their injuries. Both accidents took place on the same day within Polk County. The authorities are still investigating the accidents.

The first of the two accidents took place when a bucket truck crashed into a Toyota Highlander. The Toyota Highlander had left its lane and directly came into the path of the truck. Earl Jones Jr., 79, was driving the Highlander at the time. The truck driver has been identified as Michael Pultz, 34, of Lakeland.

Both were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash which took place at the East Badcock Boulevard and North Church Avenue intersection. Jones suffered severe injuries in the crash and was rushed to the Lakeland Regional Health where he succumbed. Pultz sustained no injuries in the crash.

The second crash took place on the US 98. A group of 15 motorcyclists was traveling eastbound on the highway when a small animal came in front of the vehicles. The motorcyclists maneuvered to save the animal. Caitlyn Yockey, 22, was traveling westbound at the time. Yockey applied brakes to avoid collision with the motorcyclists. However, the crash involves Yockey’s vehicle and three other motorcycles.

Of the motorcyclists involved in the accident, Michael Pisciotta, 62, sustained serious injuries. Pisciotta was transported to Florida Heartland Hospital where he died from his injuries. He was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. The other two motorcyclists injured in the crash were Carlos Cains, 48, and Angel Gerardo Rios, 53. Both sustained minor injuries. Yockey was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision and sustained minor injuries.

Polk County Sheriff’s Office is currently investigating both crashes. The details of both accidents are yet to be revealed. The details may help establish the actual cause of the accident and divulge if any negligence on the part of the drivers was involved.
